Leaving Boston was tough, both personally and logistically: Hurricane Irene canceled flights in and out of Logan Airport Sunday and Monday. Needless to say, the airport was insane Tuesday morning. But thankfully we made it out to Los Angeles without much hassle. The Tall Guy even managed to fit his belongings into three large suitcases - I'd like to see anyone else do that!
To round up our 'lasts' for Mike's departure, we hit up only the best of Boston.
A trip to Neptune Oyster for some serious seafood indulgences:
We had a grilled octopus appetizer at Legal - not as good as when we had it down in the Galapagos but close! And I tried abalone, which actually tasted amazing!
Abalone shells are beautiful - they're usually used as soap dishes
And bar hopping from Figs in Charlestown for tasty apps (the mussels are phenomenal, as are the fried asparagus spears and the bib salad with bacon). Not to mention some ice cold red sangria:
We rounded out the night at Tavern on the Water for the full view of downtown Boston across the water, Dark n Stormies with Gosling's Rum, and their amazing panko chicken fingers and homemade ranch.

Remember when your new teacher for the upcoming school year would send you a list of supplies? And planning your first day outfit was always a big deal - check out how cute the Tall Guy's niece look today for their first day back!
What new item would you sport if it was your first day back to school? I might wear this madras skirt like this one from Nantucket Brand - and I'm definitely packing it to bring a little New England spirit to California.
It's also the first day of classes for students at Lehigh University, but move in day was last week. Remember saying goodbye to your parents and settling in with your roommate? And the dreaded unpacking: I lived in M&M - and true to form - brought too much stuff with me from Ohio.
But for this move tomorrow, we'll be packing sparingly: just Mike's clothes. Thank you again Jet Blue for having the first checked bag fly free!

Hurricane Jerry 2 oz. Sailor Jerry rum 1 oz. Bols triple sec
2 oz. mango or passion-fruit juice
1 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
Splash of grenadine
Shake. Pour over ice. Garnish with an orange slice if you want to get fancy.
Yesterday I received the iPad the Tall Guy and I ordered for use on my trips back and forth from Boston to LAX over the coming months - can't tell you how happy I am that I scored a Jet BluePass for unlimited travel for the next three months.
As I set up the iPad, I realized that I had not one but three Apple products sitting next to me (computer and iPhone were the other two). It made laugh at how nerdy that probably looked, but it also made me reminisce about my first Apple product: a second generation iPod. This was before those great commercials came out with those catchy songs by The Black Eyed Peas and Jet.
Getting an iPod convinced me that Apple was on to something good. I bought their stock at $15/share back in 2002, and you probably know how that turned out.
Another NY Times analysis shocked me: Steve Jobs's 313 Patents all laid out in a row (check it out for yourself). The guy has undoubtedly changed the way we interact with technology forever.
Apple has done some really amazing things - more than just giving people the ability to play Angry Birds on big screens. I'm sure they're well aware of the many eyes upon them in this next chapter without Steve Jobs.
Finals are over!! That means a few weeks of relaxing: working on a nice end-of-summer tan, catching up on Us Weekly, and spending far too much time in CVS pondering the newest nail polish purchase.
Despite the fact that I can't seem to grow my nails to a respectable length, I still enjoy lathering them with lacquer. I have seen a few noteworthy new products worth a shout out (thank you Fashionista blog for these great finds!).
OPI colors inspired by the Muppets. If Jason Segal ever goes out in drag, I know it'll be with one of these beauties on his finger tips. Colors like 'Meep-Meep-Meep,' 'Warm and Fozzie,' 'Excuse Moi,' and 'The Fresh Frog of Bel Air' will crack a smile of fond remembrance on anyone's face:
