It goes without saying that what happens on Bourbon St. stays there! But here are a few great pictures I got from all the fun our group had, especially after the wedding reception was over. It's pretty convenient that the city has no open container law. You can get a beer in a plastic 'to go' cup or get drive-thru Hurricanes in your car.
Besides Bourbon St. debaucheries, the whole city oozed with old world charm. Everyone keeps telling me that California is 'so different' but I'd argue that NOLA is a gem worth exploring. Everything from restaurants with two different waiters (one to do drinks, one to do food exclusively), to friendly local bartenders, live bands at every corner and bar...the list goes on.
The little touches I loved in the city were the gas lamps that lined the street shops (and these old style electric light bulbs at the Jackson Brewery) were a great touch.
The local artists that lined Jackson square showed off the city's rich legacy of turning out artists of all kind.
Have you ever noticed some cities have art decorated by local artists throughout the city? In Cleveland, it's various guitars (because The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is there), but in New Orleans there are decorated caskets. Even the raised cemeteries are works of art, and there are plenty of Ghost Tours to explore in the heart of the city. This one was my favorite - it was outside the reception hall, the Basin St. Station.
Needless to say, I had a great time in NOLA and hope to go back soon. It made it even more special that my closest friends from Kenston were there - who would think we'd be tearing it up on the dance floor at Julie's wedding to the songs we loved in 7th grade?
